Kansas City Here We Come!

Yep, you read that right! Here is a timeline recap of the life changing events of our summer...
*Disclaimer...this is a whole lot of journaling. I will not feel bad if you don't read the whole thing!

June 24 - While in McCall, ID (I will blog about that later) Shaun receives word that the Marketing Research Analyst job that he has had his eye on is now available
June 29 - Drive home from Idaho trip
July 6 - Interview for the Marketing Research Analyst (MRA) job in Kansas City
July 16 - Shaun gets a job offer from Teva (the kids and I are in Camarillo preparing to drive to Half Moon Bay, the next day)
July 17-22 - Spend time in Half Moon Bay and San Francisco. Shaun surprised the kids and flew to San Francisco for Saturday and Sunday...He hadn't seen Brittany since we left Utah on June 29th.
July 23-26 - Fly to Kansas City to go on a mad house hunting trip. Come home exhausted and with no prospects! We told the kids on Sunday night when we got back that we were moving there.
We had a crazy, exhausting week, preparing the house to list it to sell, sorting thru hundreds of homes for sale in Kansas City area to prepare for my next house hunting trip, and going thru stuff to sell at a garage sale on Aug. 1
August 2-4 Brittany and Tyler and I fly to Kansas City for a second house hunting trip
On Tuesday, we found a house and made an offer! We flew to LA shortly after that and then drove up to Camarillo, where we left the kids with my parents for our next trip!
August 5-9 Shaun, Tyler and I went back to LAX early in the morning to fly to Victoria, BC for Shaun's presidents club award trip. This was a nice get away from it all. We did have a few papers we needed to sign and fax while there. We also got an offer on our home in California while there! While in Canada, we decided that we would drive to Kansas City early the next week so we could get there in time for the kids to start school. Sometime toward the end of our trip in Victoria, we find out that the buyers of our house change their mind! We picked up the kids on Sunday night and drove to Murrieta.
August 10 - We frantically packed a few necessities that we would need for a month or so until we go back to Murrieta for our big move. Shaun had a hitch put on my Honda Pilot and we loaded a small Uhaul trailer with some of the stuff that the movers wont move for us, the kids bikes, some of our clothes, fertilizer, freezer foods and refrigerator stuff...
August 11 - 10am we left Murrieta, on our way to Overland Park, Kansas! We got a call from our realtor in CA that we received offer #2 on our house! This offer was more than the asking price! We are thrilled! Along the way, we review the inspection report on the home we intended to buy. We discover that the plumbing was polybutelyne pipes. Apparently these pipes have had some issues with leaking. Our inspector raised a red flag because we are a relocation and some companies won't buy a house for a relo if it has those pipes. After a lot of phone calls and research we decided that the pipes would be ok to have in the home and that we would still go with the house if the sellers would fix the other things we had requested and drop their price a little.
August 14 - We spend the day looking at more homes with our fearless realtor and spend some time looking over the house that we are potentially going to buy.
August 15 - The sellers of the house tell us they won't drop their price or do any of the repairs and they push the closing date back 2 weeks. They give us 1 hour to decide what we want to do. We decide that we are not interested and walk away from that house. At this point we had found another house that we liked even better!
August 16 - We go to church with the ward in house number 2 boundaries. We meet so many nice people! People with family in Murrieta and 2 people that Shaun went to high school with! They even live just around the corner from house #2!
August 17 - Make an offer on House #2. The sellers don't want to budge. We don't want to meet them at their price, so we keep looking. The kids should have started school today.
We spend a lot of time looking at houses online, driving by possibilities to see if they are in a good location and driving thru neighborhoods looking for For Sale By Owner signs!
August 20 - Brittany and I go look at more homes with our realtor. Brittany has decided that she wants to be a realtor when she grows up! We find a couple of possibilities and have Shaun and the kids meet us at them.
August 21 - We do a little research into the comps of the 2 possibilities and find out that they are over priced! We make a verbal offer on one of those houses. They aren't motivated sellers and don't want to budge!
August 22 - We decide to up our offer on House #2. Wait all day for a response and finally get one - they accepted another offer that day! We look at a few more houses and take Shaun to another house Brittany and I had seen. He likes it!
August 24 - Sign papers on offer #3! We are pros at this now! The sellers are motivated and willing to negotiate with us on the price!
August 25 - The girls start school! Blue River Elementary! We are in escrow now.
Our home inspection is on September 1. I am trying not to be too excited about this house, because you never know! But, we are hopeful! The home was built 5 years ago, is in very nice condition, so we are hoping that the inspector won't find anything too major wrong with it.
There you have it. The worlds longest excuse for not blogging! Maybe over the next couple of weeks, between arranging for our move and keeping Eric and Tyler entertained while the girls are in school, I hope to blog about our fun this summer! Shaun and I were just saying how nice it was that we took our family vacation to Idaho right after school got out! It was the calm before the storm!

Crazy how similar our experiences have been! I agree 100% -it was a strengthening experience for sure. Such a weird feeling being homeless, and trying to figure out what feels right. Seems like the Lord often tests our patience to see if we are willing to wait for what he has in store for us. Sounds like the blessings have finally begun to unfold for you and the hunt is over. Such a long summer for us moving, I too feel grateful we took our vacation in the Spring. But, I can't imagine trying to get the kids in school when you haven't even found your home.

Yes, we did meet some Drapers. I wondered if you might have ended up in the same area as them. We got invited over to dinner at a bishop's home (ended up being the wrong ward, but they are really close to us), and they were there along with Teresa's sister Bobbi. It was one hilarious evening. Sometime you ought to hear Matt's Home Depot and Lowes shopping spree story. They are great people, and you are fortunate to know them. Apparently the Drapers had just recently moved, so we got to hear their perspective on how different K.C. is.

Bobbi's son ended up being in Captain's class which was a fun surprise, so it has been perfect. In fact their kids are all our kids' same ages. Miss M plays with their daughter at recess. So, we will have to get together with them or possibly do some babysitting trading or something.

Great update! Wish I'd looked before e-mailing Donna. I would have suggested that she check out your blog! Do you remember if you've invited her?
