We couldn't have asked for more beautiful weather! While it was over 100 deg. at home, it was probably only 85 deg. on the island! This was our first trip to Catalina, so we wanted to make sure we got to see all of the sights and learn about the island's history. So, after a quick bite to eat, we headed over to a hotel that offers Segway tours!
We had a really nice guy named Joe, who owns the company, as our tour guide. We started out with a quick lesson on how to use the Segway, and then a little bit of practice around the hotel courtyard, and on the steep hill we would need to go down to get us back into town. Then we were off! Our 1 hour tour quickly became 2 1/2 hours! We had a family with us for the first half, and then Shaun and I had a private tour the remaining time! We learned lots of interesting things about the island and saw some beautiful sights! Joe was a very willing photographer, especially when we told him we were celebrating our 10th anniversary.
Segway's are really amazing! The ability to move forward, backward, or stop, is controlled by shifting your weight with your ankles. We were told not to put our weight on the handles. They are just there for comfort and it had a control you would turn to go right or left. It was pretty neat that you could ride without holding on at all and not fall off! Even a pregnant girl can ride without handle bars!
After our Segway tour, we were ready for a rest!
We took this picture for Eric!
Our boat didn't leave until late, so we had time to enjoy a nice italian dinner, outside, looking out over the Avalon harbor!
The day had to come to an end, and it was time to get back on the boat for the hour ride back to Long Beach.
We couldn't have asked for a nicer day in Avalon, and I couldn't have asked for a better person to have spent the last 10 years with!

Nice Helmet Darth! How does it feel to know you have spent more time with my husband in the past 3 days and I have in the past three weeks? That is okay though-he had a blast with your kids.
Congrats on 10 years! Can you believe it's been that long? Your pregnant belly is cute!
Happy Anniversary!! I was thinking about you guys on Friday, even though I was in Northern California! Looks like you guys had a great time in Catalina!! What a GORGEOUS day!! Your segway pictures are awesome!!! The helmets are SUPER CUTE!!! :) See you guys on Saturday!!
Happy 10 years! Awesome date idea!
Aren't Segways fun? We had a chance opportunity to ride one once when we were out for a walk. Our neighbor had it and it took a while to get used to leaning forward without pressing on the handles. I am impressed you took it on a hill and definitely impressed you did "no hands"!
Lins - what happened to the plan of celebrating your 10th with matching tats?
